Leah Dorothy Lawrentz, 93, of Akron, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2022. She was born in Cumberland, Ohio to the late Omer and Bertha Warne on April 1, 1929. After graduating from high school in Coshocton, Leah moved to New York City for Salvation Army Officer training. After graduating from the program, she was first stationed in Youngstown and later served in Cleveland as a pastor.
Leah raised her family in Tallmadge and was a lifetime member of The Chapel, where she volunteered as a Sunday School teacher and worked as a secretary for over ten years.
Leah loved to be active, even in her advanced years. She was an avid jogger and walker and spent countless hours caring for her garden. She was a wonderful grandmother and was instrumental in helping to raise her grandchildren. She will be truly missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents and several siblings, Leah was preceded in death by her grandson, Greg Lawrentz.
Leah is survived by her son, Mark (Rebecca) Musarra; grandchildren, Don Lawrentz, Chris Lawrentz, Eric (Dani) Lawrentz, Heather Lawrentz (John), and Chris (Danielle) Waters; thirteen great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 2, 2023 from 5-7 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Tallmadge Cemetery.
