Lee Simpkins

December 28, 1956 — February 2, 2025

Lee Simpkins, 68, of Litchfield, passed away peacefully at home on February 2, 2025 surrounded by his siblings. His gentle presence and kind spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Lee retired in March 2024 after a dedicated career as the Director of Environmental Services at LSS The Good Shepherd. His commitment to his work and the people he served left a lasting legacy of care and kindness to those around him.

Lee’s life was not just about work; it was adorned with moments spent outdoors, where he’d often lose himself in the beauty of nature. He found great joy in spending time near the water, whether it was traveling south to Myrtle Beach, or enjoying the serenity of fishing. Many sunny days were spent at the cabin at Leesville Lake, a sanctuary that encapsulated his love for family.

His loving wife, Tina Simpkins, alongside Jessica Church (Roger Odom) and Matthew Church (Mia Kalmeyer), will carry his memory in their hearts forever. Lee was not just a husband and father; he was a figure of unwavering support and affection, particularly for Matthew and Jessica Church, whom he loved deeply as if they were his own. His grandchildren, JayLynn and Spencer Church, and Kielynn Odom, brought immeasurable joy and purpose to his life, their laughter and smiles lighting up his days.

Lee is lovingly remembered by his siblings: Mary Goodwin, Peg Simpkins (Marlene Maylo), Marcia (Roger) Herriott, Joan Mercer, and Beth Grisez. The warmth of family extended far and wide, encompassing numerous cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins, each of whom will carry forth Lee's legacy of love, laughter, and togetherness.

In death, Lee has been reunited with his mother and father, Joan Francis and George W. Simpkins Jr., his brother, George W. Simpkins III; and his mother-and-father-in-law, Carol Ann and Norman R. Schofield. Their reunion brings comfort to those he left behind, knowing that they are together again.

A gathering where friends and family can come together to honor Lee's memory and share stories of the man whose kindness echoed with every interaction will be held on Saturday February 22, 2025 from 12pm until 2pm at Newcomer, 131 N. Canton Rd, Akron, OH 44305.  A memorial service will take place at 2pm.  Lee's service can be livestreamed at the scheduled time at the link below.

Lee Simpkins will forever be remembered with love as a man whose laughter brightened even the gloomiest of days and whose gentle spirit will remain in our hearts. May his memory bring warmth and comfort to all who were fortunate enough to know him.
