Leon C. McElwain went home to be with Our Lord on March 27, 2023. He was born on June 6, 1943 in Sutton, WV to Charles and Madeline McElwain. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Charles, Jim, and Ruby Mae (Rollyson) and survived by his brothers, Kevin and Steven. He will be greatly missed by his children, Daniel (Lisa), Donna McDaniels, Leon (Tena) and Robert (Rachel). He will also be mourned by long-time friend and former spouse, Jeannie McElwain and her children, Jennifer Burbridge (Dave), Pam Gale and Tim Gale. He leaves behind 32 grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
Leon loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was a life member of the North American Hunting Club. He has hunted from Texas to Canada. He especially enjoyed fishing for walleye and salmon on Lake Erie and taking the New York fishing trips with his friends.
Leon was a truck driver and member of Teamsters Local 436 and retired from Babin Building Center in 2003. During his retirement, he did some traveling, enjoyed nature and spent time with friends and family.
Family and friends are invited to visit Saturday, April 1, 2023 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Newcomer, Akron Chapel, 131 N. Canton Rd. The funeral service will follow at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Hillside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to a cancer research organization.
