Lewis Darrell Shafer
Lewis Darrell Shafer, 68, of Akron, passed away September 22, 2004 at Akron City Hospital. He was born October 2, 1935 in Frame, West Virginia, to the late Okey & Belva (Harper) Shafer. Lewis served in the U.S. Army as a sharpshooter and received a National Defense Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. He was employed by RCA Rubber Co. Lewis enjoyed hunting with his good friend, Bud and he loved his tomato garden. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his good friend, Larry Wonder. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 46 years, Phyllis (Reed) Shafer; daughter, Donna Somerville (Shafer); son, Lewis Daniel Shafer; grandchildren, Nicole, Gary, Travis, Lewis DeWayne and Heather; sisters, Doris (John) Ryan, Carolyn (Bill) Robbins, Edith Mae (Ray) Lawson and Barb (David) Pauley; brothers, Charles Marian (Nancy), twin brother, James Harold (Norva), Harry, Johnny (Jo); special friends at work, Carl Johns and John Goodyear. Calling hours will be Sunday from 5 - 8 p.m. at NEWCOMER-FARLEY FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd. where funeral services will be held Monday at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Don Booth officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family to assist with medical expenses.
