Lida J. Gardner (Funk), 90, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on January 18, 2024. She was born in Rowlesburg, West Virginia on May 23, 1933, the youngest of 11 children, to the late Charles and Leecy (Godwin) Funk. She moved to Ohio in her early twenties, where she met and married Roger Gardner. They were happily married for 67 years until his passing in 2021.
Lida is survived by her children, Kim (Roger) Fulks and Roger (Nora Moran) Gardner; grandchildren, Holly Gardner, Kelly (Charles) Steedley; and great-granddaughter, Lilly Wilson.
Lida was a beautician and teacher at Riggs Lamar Beauty School in Akron. She also worked with Victims Assistance for battered women. For many years, she served at The Chapel in Akron with the Golden Agers and at the United Church of Christ in Tallmadge with the Stephens Ministries.
She loved to be around people and her family. She will be greatly missed, but we know we will be reunited with her in Heaven one day.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. with visitation for one hour prior at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, Pastor Joel Cochran officiating. Lida will be privately laid to rest at Hillside Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke's Lutheran Community, 615 Latham Lane, Akron, Ohio 44319.
