Lillian Heare

August 31, 1918 — December 14, 2012

LILLIAN HEARE

Lillian Heare, 94, a beloved mother, passed away on December 14, 2012, after a recent fall at her home and a short stay at The Bath Manor in Akron, Ohio.

Born in Millstadt, Illinois on August 31, 1918, Lillian was raised in St. Louis, Missouri along with her brothers, Ray, Clarence and Bill and sister, Vera. As a member of America's greatest generation, she served the World War II effort as a gas mask inspector for Goodyear Aircraft. After the death of her husband, she worked as a sales clerk at the downtown Akron Polsky's department store from 1967 until they closed in 1978.

She is survived by her son, Sloan C. Heare and daughter-in-law, Carmen as well as her "granddogs", Kory and Samantha. Lillian was preceded in death by her husband, Sloan B. Heare, her mother and father, Emma and Louis Eckert, all her brothers and sisters and her first "granddog", Dusty.

She loved her flowers, garden and yard work in general and was known as being cantankerous, stubborn, and independent. She was an avid fan of the Browns, Indians, St Louis Cardinals, and Notre Dame football. She enjoyed watching endless hours of their games on her television, as well as attending many of them.

The family would like to thank The Bath Manor's staff as well as Summa's Hospice and Palliative Service (especially Erica Hoiles), the staff at Cuyahoga Falls Western Reserve Hospital, and the Cuyahoga Falls Paramedics for her wonderful care over the last several months – as well as the caring neighbors and friends from her two neighborhoods in North Hill and in Cuyahoga Falls. Per her wishes, there will be no services. In lieu of other remembrances, the family asks that donations be made to the Humane Society of Greater Akron, 7996 Darrow Road, Twinsburg, OH 44087.
