Lillie B. Hughes

January 26, 1929 — August 21, 2017

On August 21, 2017 a life well lived came to a fitting close. Lillie Bell (Edith) Hughes returned home to her rightful place in the presence of a God she loved, honored and served. Her loss eclipsed the solar eclipse that everyone had long awaited. But then that is who she was, big-hearted, huge spirited, and with a hearty laugh that would make you laugh. To meet her once was to love her for a lifetime. She met no strangers and would help anyone in any way that she could. All who knew her benefited from her love of people, her delicious cooking, and her many, many, many shopping excursions. She never met a sale she didn't like.

She was gifted to us on January 26, 1929 in Clayton Alabama where she and her pet pig grew up. Having lost her parents early in life she was reared in large part by her sister and alongside her nieces and nephews with whom she maintained enduring and very special relationships. From her hard work, unconditional love, and commitment grew a family of five children (including her beautiful daughters Carrie Hydara and Virginia Cox who both preceded her in death), twenty-three grandchildren (Teonna Wilder having also preceded her in death) and now new generations of great and great-great grandchildren all of whom adored her and whom she adored in return. She was blessed to have found love twice and to have been a staunch supporter and strong helpmate to each of those loves (Thomas J. Edith and Tom Hughes who both preceded her in death).

She was a loving mother, strict disciplinarian, and boundless resource for her remaining children Raymond Edith, Sonja DeJournett (Walter), and Pamela Rogers (Eddie) and her grandchildren Randall Edith, Stacy Edith, LaVelle Hardin, Chaun Siner, Rodrick Siner, Arris N. King, Nathaniel R. Jones, Kellie M. Edith and LeRoy T. Stewart. She cannot be replaced. But as always, thinking of others she left behind her love of family and the blueprint for how life is meant to be lived.
