Linda Marie (Jones) Thompson, 62, passed away on October 16, after a courageous battle with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. Her strong faith in God and his saving grace gave her much peace. Her kindness to others will be long remembered by her family and many friends. All who knew Linda delighted in her mischievous sense of humor and constant smile. Linda was a graduate of Kenmore High School, class of '67. She retired from the City of Akron after almost 10 years of service as a secretary to the mayor. She was a faithful member of the Arlington Memorial Baptist Church. She especially enjoyed being a part of the "Golden Girls". Linda was born in Akron, OH to the late Bess and Bob Jones. She was preceded in death by her brother, Bill. She is survived by her loving sons, Michael and Nick; devoted daughter-in-law, Stacy Thompson; her adoring grandsons, Justin and Jared; granddaughter, Shianne; devoted sister, Barbara (Jack) Gaydash; brothers, John (Sherri) Jones, Richard (Nancy) Jones; together with a host of nieces and nephews and many special friends. We should all be comforted by Linda's own words- if healing from ALS was not "in the plan", she'd be a "winner" knowing she'd be talking and walking beside Jesus on her journey of eternal life. Linda was a beautiful witness of God's devotion and love. Linda's last wish was fulfilled by living her final months with Nick, Stacy, Justin and Jared and being able to spend precious time with them. Friends may call Friday from 5-8 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron. Funeral service will be Saturday, 10 a.m., with a visitation one hour prior at Arlington Memorial Baptist Church, 2330 E. Market St., Akron, Pastor Matthew McDaniels officiating. Interment at Lakewood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the ALS Association, 2500 E. 22nd St., Suite 102, Cleveland, OH 44115.
