Linda J. Toney (nee McGill), age 69, went home to be with the Lord on August 26, 2019. Linda was born on February 14, 1950 to the late George and Ester (nee Bell) McGill in Leland, Mississippi.
Linda relocated to Akron, Ohio and was raised by her aunt and uncle, Corene and Max Baxter, from infancy. She was a graduate of South High School. She was an active member of New Hope Baptist Church. Linda worked many years in the Home Health Care field until retiring from Access Women's Homeless Shelter.
Linda was caring, kind, giving and amazing woman. She also was a loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt and a special friend to all who knew her. She spent most of her life helping people. She never turned her back on you and that is why she was so special.
Other than her parents, Linda was preceded in death by her aunt and uncle, Corene and Max Baxter; her brother, Bobby Upton; and her special cousin, Michael Andrew.
Her memory will be cherished by her beloved husband, Garland Toney; her children, Audley (Jeri) McGill, LaTonya Dent and Tiara Toney; grandchildren, Courtney Hall, Delon and Aaliyah McGill, Steven Parker, JeShaun Gates, Tony, Breana and Alexis Dent, Tyson Davis II, Garland and Davion Toney; step-granchildren, Ontario Bradley and Madison Davenport; great-grandchildren, Delon, Milan, and London. Her siblings also survive, Valerie Brinson, Vanessa and Clifford Upton; special cousin, Elaine Bell; and special friends, Yvette and Bobby Allen, Mary and Frank McCray, Kim Davenport, Kim Walker, Johnny and Herb Johnson, Francine Trice-Lewis, Chevy and Tonya Hickson, Constance Bozeman, Christin Williams, April Thomas, April Garrett, Holly Webb, Lindsey Tinsley, Lisa Edwards, Orba Cook, John and Philomena Simmons, John Freeman, Jimmy Daniels, Deborah Riley (Jay), Jim B. and Emma White; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Her going home service will be held on Friday September 6, 2019 at New Hope Baptist Church, 1706 South Hawkins Avenue, Akron, Ohio 44320 at 12:00 PM, where family and friends may visit from 11:00 AM until the time of the service.
