Lois E. Nelson, 76, passed away February 4, 2012. Lois graduated from Warren G. Harding High School in 1953. She retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber as an Administrative Executive Assistant after 28 years of service. Lois was a member of the Akron Springfield Assembly of God Church. She had a great sense of dry humor and quick wit, and enjoyed baking for the holidays. She and her husband, Sam, loved to travel in their RV and staying out at various camp sites around the country. She truly cared about the needs of others more than her own and she was always there for the people who loved her. Her kindness and selflessness in the things that she did for her family and friends will always be remembered. Lois was preceded in death by her loving husband of 34 years, Samuel J. Nelson, Jr.; parents, Roy & Gladys Mansfield; and sister, Carol Mansfield. She will be deeply missed by her son and his wife, Edward and Janpen Ritchie; step-son, Samuel J. Nelson III; grandchildren, Bailey Ritchie and Ashley Nelson; cousins, Elva and Bob Matous, and Jay and Pauline Larsen; close friends and caregivers, Don and Carol Hall; and many other loving family members and friends. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, February 8, from 6 to 8 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, where a service will be held Thursday, February 9, at 11 am, with a visitation 1 hour prior, with Rev. Joseph Serbin officiating. Entombment at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
