Lois (Knode) Powers

January 28, 1928 — August 1, 2013

Lois Anne (Knode) Powers, age 85, followed her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ to her heavenly reward on August 1, 2013, after a 14-year struggle with Alzheimer's disease.

She was born on January 28, 1928 in Fairmont, West Virginia, to the late Edgar M. and Minnie (Null) Knode. She gave her heart to Christ as a 16-year-old teenager in 1944, at Morgantown First Church of the Nazarene, and served her Lord faithfully throughout her life.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, William H. Powers, to whom she was married for 61 years.

Mrs. Powers graduated from Morgantown (WV) High School in 1946 and moved with her husband to Akron, Ohio to serve her church, husband, and raise a family. She was employed and retired from Fotomat, Inc. She was a member of Church of the Nazarene for 69 years, most recently at Southeast Church of the Nazarene in Tallmadge, Ohio. Her lifelong passion was for Nazarene World Missions, leading her church's local chapter for 30 years.

She loved to sew, can vegetables, freeze jam, sing in the choir, organize funeral dinners and other church functions, talk to Mary on the phone, and listen to "Howie" every day. She used her many talents and gifts to touch the lives of others.

She is survived by her caring children, Annette (Bob) Weaver of Houston, Texas, Denise (Ed) Fabian of Mogadore, and Dale (Kay) Powers of Akron; five grandchildren (Adam Powers of Akron, Lydia Smith of Hartville, Caleb Smith of Akron, Clint and Sarah Weaver of Houston, Texas) and two great-grandchildren (Noah and Elijah Smith). She also leaves behind her dearest friend, Mary Bailey of Akron, Ohio. She has left many friends and family who loved her. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Powers was preceded in death by her brother, E. Dale Knode, of Fairmont, West Virginia and her sister, Dolores V. Sechrest, of Downey, California.

Special thanks to the caring staff at Essex of Tallmadge and for the extraordinary support from Hospice of the Western Reserve - Fairlawn office.

The family will receive friends at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 North Canton Road, Akron, Ohio on Sunday, August 4 from 4 to 6 p.m. A celebration of her life in Christ will be held on Monday, August 5 at 10 a.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, with Rev.
