Lois Virginia Sherbondy

April 22, 1927 — March 4, 2021

Lois Virginia Sherbondy was welcomed into the arms of her Savior at home surrounded by family on Thursday, March 4 at age 93. Lois was born April 22, 1927 to Kenneth and Irene (Miller) Sherbondy in her family home on Sherbondy Hill in Akron.
She is preceded in death by her brother, Kenny Ray Sherbondy, sisters Marilyn Rediger, Carole King, nephew Skip Dodson and her lifelong best friend Kathleen Stiles. She is survived by Kay Sherbondy, nieces and nephews Susan (Steven)Warner, Eric King, Sheryl Wichterman (Neil), Larry Sherbondy, Denise (Ron) Mangus, Keith (Lura) Sherbondy, Marilyn Dodson. Also survived by her family of the heart Kathleen Zarrilli, Karin Roach, Shannon (Brian) Kelly, Ryann (Bill, Alex, Korrine) Braunlich, Stephen (Katie, Leah, Josiah, Eliza) Zarrilli, Josh (Lauren, Nora, Asher) Zarrilli, Grayson (Megan) Quirk, Baelee (Dale)Wehlburg, Kaleb (Jordan) Esber, Julia (Aaron, Silas "Little Guy") Port, Morgan (Daniel, Elowyn, Weymouth, Sequoia) Griffith and Makenzie (Elliot) Matz.
Lois was an active member in the Akron All Breed Training Club, she trained and showed many beloved dogs, some of her favorites were Alex and Kippy (Shelties), Rasp (White Shepherd) and Jodi (Irish Setter) and lastly George (Pug). She was also an accomplished athlete and was inducted into the Ohio Softball Hall of Fame, with her quick hands her primary position was third base. She was instrumental in bringing women's softball to the Akron area by starting leagues in Springfield township in the 1960's.
Lois was selfless, always caring for those around her, loving them with her time, her resources, her talents, and her gift giving. She was a woman of integrity and strong moral character. Lois cherished traditions and celebrated them all. She enjoyed traveling, camping, and time at the beach. As soon as there was a hint of warmth in the air she was sitting outside in her shorts enjoying the sunshine. She was prepared, always on time, always dependable. Lois spent years behind her camera, never in front of it, just how she liked. She didn't want posed pictures, only the spontaneous candids, so she could capture and remember things for how they were. Lois was good at just that, seeing a situation for how it was and accepting it, and loving others for who they were. She was kind to her core, never speaking a negative word about anyone. She enjoyed reading and often exchanged books with her sister-in-law, Kay. She was an avid bird watcher and in recent years a Hallmark movie watcher as well. She had a remarkable green thumb, her luscious tomatoes were a precious commodity. What we will miss the most is her infectious laugh, her comforting presence, her kind and gentle spirit, our faithful friend, our adopted grandma, our Lois.
