Lorraine Hayes
Lorraine Hayes, 84, passed away on February 27, 2013.
Lorraine was born to Hjalmer and Olga Halvorson on April 12, 1928, in Williston, North Dakota. She met her husband, Kenneth, a Navy Seabee, and they married on April 21, 1945. Lorraine and Kenneth eventually settled in the Akron area where they raised their family.
Lorraine was very active in her church, Miller Ave. United Church of Christ. She also enjoyed her volunteer work with the Good Neighbors, where she put her loving touch on all the children's Christmas dolls. Skilled as a seamstress, Lorraine was always willing to shorten a pair of pants or fix a zipper. She will be remembered for her generosity to her family, friends, and church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Kenneth; and brothers, Elmer and Lloyd. She is survived by her children, Linda (Jay) Small, Roger (Barbara) Hayes, Barbara (John) List, Deborah Hayes, and Tina (Ed) Beringer; brother, Dennis (Mary) Halvorson; grandchildren, Michael (Michele) Malinsky, Ann Marie (Mike) Morey, Dr. Tracey Hayes (Dan Dreifort), John Allen, Jennie Allen, Courtney Shook, and Nicholas Shook; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Jacob, Max, Zachary, Kate, Aubre, and Brant.
A memorial service will take place on Sunday, March 3, 2013, 3 p.m., at Fairlawn West United Church of Christ, 2095 W. Market St., Akron, OH 44313, Rev. Tom Gerstenlauer officiating. A celebration of Lorraine's life will follow. Anyone wishing to share their memory of Lorraine is welcome to do so. A private inurnment ceremony will take place at a later date.
