Louis D. Johns, 92, of Akron, passed peacefully on November 3, 2017. Louie served in the Navy during WWII and was a member of the Monacan Indian Nation. He was a hardworking man who retired from General Tire after 30+ years of service, and continued to work part-time after retiring at Hopkins Manufacturing into his eighties. He was an avid Cleveland Indians fan who spent his birthdays at the ballpark.
Louie was preceded in death by Louise C. Johns, parents, siblings, and grandson, Jeffrey B. Johns, who died serving in the Marines.
Louie will be deeply missed by his sweetheart of 35+ years, Rose Mills; children, Diane (Johns) Shields and Johnny (Karen) Johns; Rose's children, Cheryl (Tom) Wells, Denise Jordan, and Tim Mills; siblings, Bobby Johns, Leon Johns, Goldie Hambrick, and Queenie Clark; grandchildren, Teresa Pollak, Robert (Dona) Shields, Darren (Phyllis) Shields, Arianna Johns, Diane Louise Johns, Anne Wells, Jack Wells, Alyssa Jordan, and Garrett Jordan; great-grandchildren, Kaleigh Pollak, Cody Shields, Kristyn Shields, Evie Shields, Xander Shields, Talia Outland, and Gage Casey.
Memorial donations can be made in Louie's honor to the Monacan Indian Nation to P.O. Box 1136 Madison Heights, VA 24572.
Friends and family are welcome to Newcomer 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, OH 44305 on Wednesday November 8, 2017 from 10am-12pm, with a funeral ceremony to immediately follow. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park.
