Madeline N. Greenleaf (nee Nutter), 99 years old, passed away on Thursday, February 11, 2021 at her home.
Madeline was born on October 30, 1921 in Knapp, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Arthur and Carrie (nee Gerwig) Nutter.
She moved to Baltimore in 1951, and that's where she lived until moving to Akron in 2016. Madeline worked in a department store, but the most important job to her was taking care of her family.
Madeline was a devoted wife and mother, caring for them till the end. She always put everyone's needs before her own. Madeline was a very calm and gentle person. She not only loved everyone she met, she also loved all animals. She became known as the "dog whisperer" to her family and friends. She would "dog" sit, loving every minute of it. All you had to say to the dogs was, "do you want to go to Aunt Madeline's?", and they went crazy.
Other than her parents, Madeline was preceded in death by her husband, Arden S.; her son, Bradford; her sisters, Lena Rogers and Erma Chaplin; and her brothers, Herman and Robert Nutter.
Madeline is survived by her son, Stephen and her devoted fur baby, Tippy; her sisters, Rachel Burke and Ernestine Sigman; her sister-in-law, Onidee Nutter; and many nieces, nephews and close family friends.
Family and friends may visit at the Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 North Canton Road, Akron, on Saturday, February 20, 2021 from 1:00 - 2:00 PM, where funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM. Her nephew, Rev. Gary Chaplin will celebrate Madeline's life.
For those of you attending we ask that you wear a mask and adhere to social distancing guidelines.
Madeline will be transported to Elkridge, Maryland to be entombed with her husband, Arden and her son, Bradford.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Goodyear Heights Community Church, in Madeline's memory.
