Mae Marie Courie Fulks

May 4, 1938 — June 27, 2022

Mae Marie Courie Fulks, age 84 of Akron, passed away peacefully and went to be home with her Lord on June 27, 2022, after losing her long battle with respiratory illness and recent diagnosis of lung cancer. Born in Pennsylvania to Sylvia & Ernest Osborne on May 4, 1938, Marie, while in grade school, moved to Akron, Ohio and lived the remainder of her life in Springfield Township.

Marie was a member of Springfield Church of the Brethren and dearly loved her church family. She enjoyed assisting with cooking and serving over a hundred people for "family night" dinners and baked dozens of cookies for their Christmas cookie sale. During the past few years while a "shut-in", she truly appreciated the church's card ministry and loved being a member and participating in their "prayer chain" ministry. She looked forward to receiving their worship services on CD's which helped her feel she was still a part of the life of the church. After raising her children to attend grade school, Marie worked for Teledyne Monarch of Hartville for 28 years, where she worked producing rubber parts for cars. After further education, she finished her career performing time studies for their production line.

In her younger years, she enjoyed bowling on several leagues, playing guitar and singing with family and friends at family gatherings or around the camp fire. Marie enjoyed camping, boating, water-skiing, deer hunting (mostly to fellowship with family & friends) and fishing up through her early 70's. She was teased by family and friends for being named in the Akron Beacon Journal for her sighting of the "Lake Erie Monster" while fishing on Lake Erie.

Marie was very talented with her ceramic painting where she painted several lighthouses, Christmas and manger scenes, animals and figurines. She crocheted, quilted, and made crafts. Just about everything she painted or made, she found great joy in gifting to others or donating to an auction for a good cause.

Marie was proceeded in death by husband Samuel W. Courie of 27 years whom she had 3 children, and Robert E. Fulks of 26 years where she was blessed with 3 additional (step) children. She loved her children and was very proud of her blended family. She was also preceded in death by daughter Cindy Courie, sisters: Shirley Garrison, Osie Porter, Erma Hixenbaugh, Judith Haynes and brother Ernest Osborne.

Survived by children Samuel (Delores) Courie, Jr. of Uniontown, Michael (Vanessa) Courie of Tallmadge, Debbie (Donald) Stafford of Akron, Robert Fulks of Tallmadge and Darla (Michael) Dexter of Hartville, Cindy Bates (Cindy's Partner) of Springfield Twp., 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grand child, and youngest sister Donna (Bill) Davis of Springfield Township, many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Her family would like to thank special friend Cindy Bates who helped care for their mother by assisting with running errands, doctor visits, household chores, and pretty much anything that Marie needed. Marie appreciated and loved Cindy as a daughter.
