Mae Della Rowan, 81, passed away November 8, 2009 at Copley Health Center surrounded by family and friends. Mae was born May 24, 1928 in Barberton, Ohio to the late Pete and Stella (Buris) Neely. She retired from the VA Hospital in Brecksville, Ohio as a nurse. Mae was a true believer in God, and enjoyed sewing, knitting and crossword puzzles. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-father, Mr. Upshaw; her husband, A.C. Rowan; sister-in-law, Josie Livingston; brother-in-laws, Honey and Joseph Rowan; and her aunt, Callie Fitch Chambliss. She is survived by her uncle, Robert Buris of Quebec, Canada; cousins, Barbara Fitch Haly, Diane Brooks, Jerry Fitch, Virginia Wooley and Michael Fitch; special "sister"-in-law and friend, Earnestine Reed; nephew, Ronald (Ophelia) Rowan, Sr; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial gathering will be held Monday, November 16, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, where a service will follow at 2 p.m. with Rev. Joseph Lee officiating.
