She left Merritt High School after a year to relocate to Akron, OH with her uncle and aunt Darnell and Elinore Milbry, where she enrolled and graduated from South High School.
She married her love Robert Stevenson, and their union produced three children Robert (deceased), Bruce and Brenda. Shortly after moving to Akron, she became a member of Antioch Baptist Church, where she participated with the youth group; was on the usher board and a choir member. She was moved by the Holy Spirit to become a member of First Apostolic Faith Church in 1993 where she served for 20 years as a Sunday school teacher in the Primary Department. She worked on the Evangelist team where she enjoyed going into the community witnessing for Christ and passing out Christian literature. She offered ministry at the altar and provided nursing home ministry for the “sick and shut-in.”
She furthered her education at the Akron Board of Education receiving a certification as a nursing assistant. She was employed by the Akron Board of Education, Broadview Rehabilitation, Green Cross Hospital in Cuyahoga Falls and lastly with Akron General Medical Center for 23 years before retiring due to a medical disability. After healing, she went on to start an in-home day care from 2001 to 2016.
Following her "real" retirement, Mamie enjoyed spending time with her family, enriching her faith by attending services as she was able, and filling her friends' and families' bellies with the delicious dishes from her kitchen, always made with love.
