Margaret "Maggie" A. Oliver

Margaret "Maggie" A. Oliver, age 67, of Lakemore, passed away peacefully at home on December 27, 2024 surrounded by her family. She was born on March 21, 1957 to Charles and Edith Prater in Akron, Ohio. 

Maggie worked at Hope Homes, Inc for more than 25 years, starting as Support Staff and working her way up to Director. She dedicated her life to the care and love of individuals with developmental disabilities, and was a fierce advocate for their wellbeing and inclusion. 

Maggie had a deep-seeded passion for genealogy, Kentucky and her Appalachian heritage. She spent a great deal of time researching and curating her family tree, as well as helping others do the same. Her Ancestry.com page has over 22,000 family members listed dating back as far as 1703. 

Maggie is survived by her husband of 39 years, Mark Oliver; children, Jamie (Scott) Meeks, Joshua (Michelle) Oliver and Rachel (Josh) VanHyning; grandchildren, Chloe, Cole, Victoria and Andrew (Samantha); great-granddaughter, Eden; mother, Edith; siblings, Cindy (Carl) Ford, Bessie Hopkins, Troy (Shawn) Prater, David (Aleta) Prater and Mike (Shelly) Prater; brother-in-law, Paul Ward; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and other extended family members and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her father, Charles; and sister, Connie Ward.

Her husband and children would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Bradley Clifford; the entire Infusion Center team at Summa Health Cancer Center, but especially to John and Mary; and to her hospice team, Jackie, Misty and Tiffany.

Family and friends are invited to visit at Newcomer Funeral Home (131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, OH 44305) on Friday, January 10, 2025 from 1pm until the time her Memorial Service begins at 3pm. Gary Meeks will officiate her service.
