Marie Dawkins, 83, of Akron, passed away in Queen Creek, AZ on December 30, 2006, surrounded by family. She was born in Madera (Betz), PA on November 20, 1923 to the late Frank and Rachael (Richardson) Gillen. Mom came to Akron at the age of eighteen and married the late Charles C. Dawkins. She worked at Goodyear and retired from the Hygenic Corporation in 1986. Mom enjoyed landscaping and gardening and received many awards from Keep Akron Beautiful. She was a great cook and an attentive grandmother and was always there when we needed her. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Charles C. Dawkins; infant brother, Robert and siblings, Lillian Beal, Floyd Gillen, Hazel Willey, and Irene Washic. She is survived by children, Karen (Roger) Fisher of AZ, Cheryl Johnston of Akron, Terri Comer of AZ, and Mark Dawkins of Akron; eight grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and sisters, Evelyn Fowler of Lewistown, PA, Velma Dinant of Syracuse, NY, Jean (Matthew) Supko of Annapolis, MD, Jeannette (Joe) Gavlak of PA, and Sandra (Andrew) Shedlock of DuBois, PA; and brother, James (Shirley) Gillen of PA. Funeral services have been held and burial took place at Hillside Memorial Park. Condolences may be sent to 2670 Robindale Ave., Akron, OH 44312.
