Marie M. Futrell

Marie M. Futrell, age 101, of Akron, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on March 11, 2024.
Marie was born April 5, 1922 in the rural community of Donaldson Creek, Trigg County, Kentucky. She moved to Akron, Ohio in 1941 where she first worked at Wright Tool in Barberton before moving on to Firestone where she was employed as a "Rosie the Riveter", assembling airplane wings until the end of WWII. Marie was a member of the former Akron Baptist Temple where she served as a Sunday school teacher for several years. She was also a charter member of the Thomas and Bridges Association. She loved her flowers, making her own clothes, and enjoyed making scrapbooks.
Marie is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Amos A. (Duma) Futrell; parents Chester Sumner and Stella Sumner Finley (nee Thomas); and brother, Gerald Sumner (Donna). She is survived by sons, Victor Futrell (Brenda) of Martin, Tennessee; Mark Futrell of Uniontown, Ohio; and Ray Futrell (Karen) of Rittman, Ohio; brother Lexie Sumner (Dixie) of Stow, Ohio; grandchildren, Kirk Futrell, Jennifer Zimmerman (Will), Melissa Futrell, Tara Boler (Brayton), Aaron Futrell (Christina), Clayton Futrell (Alexis), and Brandon Futrell (Kay); and several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at 11:00 am. Calling hours will be 1 hour prior to the funeral service. Interment will be at Hillside Memorial Park.
