Marie Hedges (Staats, Norman)

Marie Hedges went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday November 7, 2011. She passed away peacefully in her home. She was born in Bath, Ohio on December 16, 1917. Marie was blessed with a long life in which she served her Lord in a variety of ways. She was a charter member of the Gospel Crusaders Church which was founded in 1942, where she served as a secretary and in the hospitality ministry. Marie was faithful in her attendance and also visited the shut-ins with the Pastor until she was not able to physically go herself. Marie worked at the Eaton Corporation where she assisted in the World War II effort and remained until she retired. In 1980, Marie and her husband Kirby proudly earned their GEDs together. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Lucy Staats; sister, Eura Cummings; brothers, Arnold, Doyle, and Richard Staats; first husband, Hernden Norman; and second husband, Kirby Hedges. She is survived by many friends including loving friend and caregiver, Dorothy Ilg; many nieces and nephews including niece, Lonna Deane Staats Loudin. We wish to thank those who cared for Marie from Hospice Care of Akron, Cambridge Home Health Care, and those caregivers from Gospel Crusaders Church, Especially Rev. John Beers. Family and friends may call on Thursday November 10 from 5-8 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., where funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. with Rev. John Beers officiating. Interment at Northlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gospel Crusaders Church, 2240 Goodyear Blvd, Akron, OH 44305.
