Marshall "Gene" Wolford, 79, of Akron passed June 18, 2021. He lived in Akron for over 60 years. Originally from Frostburg, Maryland, his family and friends back home called him "Poss." He was born October 20, 1941 to Marshall "Budge" Wolford and Hilda McKenzie.
In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Linda; half-sister, Linda Giles Bourne; half-brother, Michael L. Wolford; half-brother Kevin L. Giles; sister-in-law Louann Giles; nephews, Francis Scott Giles and Kevin L. Giles Jr. Surviving are his five daughters, Virginia (Erick) Bognar, Cheryl (Richard) Liller, Deborah (Michael) Shears, Crissy (James) Sowers, and Lisa (Daniel) Reese. Half-brothers Donald (Linda) Giles of Cumberland, MD and Francis Giles of Frostburg, MD; half-sisters Lillian Forsythe of Hagerstown, MD and Virginia (Paul) Mason of Alabama. He is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Gene worked for Ohio Gasket & Shim for over 25 years as a machinist. Prior to this, he was employed at Thermo-Rite and Rogers Manufacturing. He loved fishing, riding his motorcycle and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was a man who would do anything for anyone, especially his family. He was very handy and could build or fix practically anything. Family joked that if dad/papaw couldn't fix-it, then no one else could.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 24 from 4-7pm at Newcomer Funeral Home in Akron. Funeral service will take place at 11am on Friday, June 25. Interment at East Akron Cemetery to follow the funeral.
