Martha M. Anderson

Martha M. Anderson, 99, went home to be with the Lord after a life full of faith and devotion to family. Martha passed from this life to the next in the early morning of May 24, 2023. She was surrounded by the love of her family, which is the kind of love she gave so freely to them.
Martha was born almost 100 years ago on September 3, 1923. She was a lifelong resident of the Akron area and was a graduate of East High School. She helped the World War II effort by being an employee of Goodyear during those years. Martha married Gordon 'Andy' Anderson in May of 1946 and together they raised three daughters. After being a stay-at-home mom for a number of years, she joined the staff of Visiting Nurse Service of Summit County, where she worked until retirement.
Martha was a charter member of St. Matthew Parish. In her younger years she was a faithful volunteer in activities that supported the parish, school and sport's program. Her other interests included being involved in building and remodeling homes to enjoy or for her children and grandchildren to enjoy. She also was a faithful supporter of her grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's activities, including school programs, religious occasions and sporting events. Her family was truly her source of pride and joy.
Martha was preceded in death by husband of 65 years, Gordon 'Andy' Anderson, daughter Margaret 'Peggy' Hoskins, parents Harry and Emma Knapp, brothers Ralph, Bill and Harry Knapp and sister Mary J. Knapp. She was also predeceased by many other extended family and friends.
Left to celebrate her life and remember the good times are daughters and "sons" Mary and Bob Hoch, Denise and Tom Leffler and Denny Hoskins. Martha is also survived by grandchildren Nanci Miller (Rob), Jeanne Stopak (Jeff), Allison Hart (Mike), Andrew Hoch, Rob Hoch (Marie), Annie Chapman (Ryan), Mark Leffler (Julianne) and Dan Leffler (Morgan). She leaves 15 great-grandchildren who added so much joy to her later years.
Martha's was a life well-lived. May her example of faithfulness, generosity, humility, determination and strength live on in her family members she leaves behind.
Visitation will be held Wednesday (May 31st) from 10:30 to 11:30am at St. Matthew Catholic Church (2580 Berne St., Akron, 44312) where a Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 with Fr. Michael Williamson officiating.
Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
