Martha E. Pickering

Martha E. Pickering, 86, formerly of Akron, died at home after a long illness in Thonotosassa, Florida on January 14, 2005. She was preceded in death by her husband, William (Thomas) Sr., to whom she was married 35 years; son, Donald Jeffrie; parents, John and Carrie Garrison; brother, John Jr.; and sister, Florence Hall. She is survived by her son, William T. Jr. (Marianne); daughter, Gayle L. Schroyer; 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Pearl Ferguson of Akron; brother-in-law, Dr. Robert G. Pickering; sister-in-law, Ruth Moravac; nieces, nephews and many wonderful friends who loved her. Martha worked many years with children, fitting them with orthopedic shoes. She loved every child she met. She loved to cook for all in her community and made sure no one spent holidays alone. Martha also volunteered for the community in which she lived, including life guarding at the pool, delivering mail and a host of other jobs. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 21at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd. with Dr. Karen Hartley officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Memorial Park. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. Friday until the service begins.
