Marvin Cottrell, 84, has passed in peace on April 26, 2019.
He was born September 1, 1934 in Akron, Ohio.
Marvin was a hardworking, industrious man. He worked many jobs to support his family. Marvin was a cook in the Army. He knew how to repair everything on semi trucks and trailers. Marvin loved to fish but this was second to his love of Roller Speed Skating. Marvin was the best, most fair, meanest, most loved, loud yelling, Roller Speed Skating Coach. He was so proud of his team making it to and winning many National Speed Skating Championships. Marvin was an avid storyteller. He would always recall an event, loaded with specific facts. He told an abundance of corny jokes, to make everyone laugh. Now we'd like to hear just one more.
Marvin's first wife, Jean and second wife, Shirley predeceased him.
He is survived by sons, Timothy (Glory), Terry (Carleen), David (Julie); daughter, Cheryl (Don) Van Berkum; six grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and Shirley's family.
Calling hours will be 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 28 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron. Funeral service immediately following. Pastor David Bogue officiating. Private burial at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Akron.
