Mary Beth Roan (Brown)
Mary Beth Roan, age 44, went home to be with the Lord on November 5, 2008 after a short battle with cancer. A resident of Akron, Mary Beth was born August 21, 1964 in Barberton, Ohio. She is a 1982 graduate of North High School, and a 1986 graduate of the Howard Nichol School of Practical Nursing. She was an LPN at the Manor Care Nursing Home of Akron for the past 15 years and loved by patients and coworkers alike. Mary Beth was called and gifted to care for others at a young age and loved her job. Her patients have been known to call her "Sweet Mary." She enjoyed scrap booking, country music, and spending time with her best friend of 44 years, Sheila Conway. She attended the Chapel of Akron. She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Russell and Arnetta Brown, and John A. Horner. Mary Beth and her husband would have been married 18 years on November 17. She is survived by and will be deeply missed by her husband, Paul V. Roan; daughter, Kaitlyn Renee (age 16); son, Christopher Paul (age 7); her parents, Charles and Sharon Brown; sisters, Diana (Bob) Mitchell, Carol (Denny) Gresham and Jenice (Mike) Eldreth; grandmother, Betty Horner; mother and father-in-law, Paul E. and Valerie Roan; brothers-in-law, Terry (Marie) and Shawn (Ann); and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. She will also be fondly remembered by her many friends, coworkers, and patients whose lives she had touched. The family wishes to thank the caring and outstanding nurses and doctors at Akron City Hospital, 4th and 7th floor East Staff for all of their kindness and compassion during the last few months, as well as extended family and friends who have been a blessing to Mary Beth's life. Her husband wishes to thank his coworkers at the Cleveland Clinic H22/J32 ICU for all their support and prayers over the past few months. Family and friends may call on Sunday from 2 - 4 & 6 - 9 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron where funeral services will be conducted Monday at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Sherman Bailey officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Memorial Park.
