Mary Ruth Cortel

Mary R. Cortel of Cuyahoga Falls, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2023. She was born on June 23, 1941.
Mary is preceded in death by her mother, Elsie "Nanny" Blechinger; father, Wilfred "Boppy" Blechinger; brothers, Richard Weikert and David Blechinger; sister, Barbara (Weikert) Anderson; and daughter, Kimberley (Jones) Redmon.

Mary reconnected with her birth father, Don Durr Weikert, as a young adult and is also preceded in death by him as well as her birth mother, Callie Marie (Waymire) Weikert.

Mary is survived by her loving son, Matthew Jones; son, Bart Cortel; son, Stephan Cortel; grandchildren, Bobby Prince Jr., Rondelle (Prince) Wheeler, Shauntelle Prince, Megan (Duhon) Tilenni, Alyssa (Jones) Balfour, Rachel Jones, Nathaniel Jones, Nicholas Cortel, Arin Rizk, and Brandon Simon; great-grandchildren, Avelisse, Penelope, Michael Jr., Joye, Saige, Kyle, Vincent and Isabella; brothers, Duane Weikert, Ronald Weikert and Marvin Weikert; and sister, Carolyn (Weikert) Lange.

Mary worked as an accounts payable associate for Roadway Express, Millcraft Paper Co, Dieco Supply and others. She was a member of the Pilgrim United Church of Christ in Cuyahoga Falls. Mary was a gifted seamstress and loved making clothes for her friends and loved ones. Mary was very charitable and would share her home with people going through difficult times.

Visitation will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home (131 N. Canton Rd. Akron) on Tuesday, March 14th, 2023 from 11-1pm. A memorial service will follow at 1pm. The family invites you to sign the online guest book and leave a fond memory.
