Mary E. Haffner

Mary E. Haffner (Friel), 87, passed away on November 5, 2011. The daughter of John and Susan (Nellie) Friel, she was born in Akron, Ohio on January 18, 1924. Mary was a member of St. Matthew Parish and active in several organizations. Mom loved to walk and was known by some as the "walking lady" in her neighborhood. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis; son, Lawrence; brothers, John, William and James.
Mom will be remembered by her sons, Richard (Diana), William (Janice), and Robert "Bo"; grandchildren, Matthew (Laura), Amanda (Nick) Penney, Chastity (Lane) Baumberger, Louis (Tara), Elizabeth and William; 7 great-grandchildren.
Family and friends may call on Tuesday, November 8, from 6-8 PM at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, November 9 at 10 AM at St. Matthew Parish.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to American Cancer Society.
