Mary Louise Holmes

Mary Louise (Smith) Holmes , 65, was known as Lu-Lu. She was born on December 31st, 1954 as the fifth child of nine siblings. She graduated from North High School and attended the University of Akron. Mary later went on to marry her high school sweetheart, Herman T. Holmes, with whom she had three children. After nineteen years of marriage they divorced but remained friends.

Mary was a cold blooded dresser, had a passion for doing hair (Gerri curls), shopping, singing and she loved gambling at the slot machines too. She loved her children, grandchildren and anybody who came in contact with her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, John L. Smith (Annie) and Sarah Mae Hopson (William); granddaughter, India Holmes; great-grandson, Laiden Holmes; sisters, Madge Warren, Lela Priester; brothers, Harvey Smith, Leroy Irvin.

Left to cherish Mary's memory are her children, Joshua, Nehemiah and her only daughter, Deborah Holmes, all of Akron, Ohio; grandchildren, My'Chel, Aniah, Mary, Lydell, Kamareon, Aiy'Sian, and Roman Holmes, all of Akron, Ohio; sisters, Edna Gladden, Jean Jones, Denise Smith, Kimberly Lee (Rex); brothers, James, John and Mark Smith, Michael (Angie) and Darryl Irvin, all of Akron, Ohio; special nieces, Eboni O'Neil, Leshillia Walker (SheShe), Leshillia Lee (MaMa); special nephew, Jazz Smith; friends Cynthia Kelly, Curtis Johnson, Velma Henderson and her mother, NaNu; plus a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Family and friends are invited to visit at Newcomer, Akron Chapel, 131 N. Canton Rd, on Friday, August 28, 2020 from 11 a.m. to the start of services at 1 p.m. Please wear masks and expect to practice social distancing. Interment will be at Mount Peace Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Newcomer Funeral Home.
