Mary J. McClaskey. Mom was born on January 26, 1935 to Lee and Cecelia Smith in Waterloo, Iowa. She left this earthly life and entered into the arms of Jesus on January 31, 2011. She was a special woman who loved her family more than anything. Anyone who met her was forever changed. She was the most loving, caring and unselfish person who always put the needs of others before her own. She loved cooking for her family and spending time in her flower gardens. We will surely miss her homemade noodles, potato salad and holiday light shows. She attended Sawyerwood United Methodist Church. She was a paper carrier for the Akron Beacon Journal for 26 years and worked as an election poll worker for many years. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Harold McClaskey; first husband, Gene McClanahan; parents, Lee and Cecelia; brothers, Francis, Donald and Darrell Smith; and sister, Nita Mae Premo. She is survived by ten children: daughters, Sharon (Tom) Allen, Pam (Don) Kintyhtt, Debbie (Bob) Brown, Kim (Randy) Wood and Vicki Davis (Todd); sons, Tommy, Terry (JoAnn), Harvey (Loretta), John and Christopher (Kimberly) McClaskey. Mary is also survived by 30 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; brother, Robert (Lois) Smith; sisters, Beverly (Charles) Stewart and Jacquelyn Hall; sister-in-law, Betty (Nick) Celetti; special nephew, Tom Higgins; special niece, Pat Keaton; and many others who called her mom. Calling hours will be held Friday, February 4, from 5 to 8 pm at the Sawyerwood United Methodist Church, 956 Mohawk Trail, Akron, 44312, where a service will be held Saturday, February 5, at 11 am with Pastors Joyce Williams and Jim Jensen officiating.
