Mary K. "Kathy" Watkins, 52, beloved daughter, sister and aunt went to be with the Lord on August 27, 2010 after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She was a lifelong resident of Akron, a graduate of Ellet High School and a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church. She was retired from Akron General Medical Center (AGMC) after 30 years of dedicated service as a nursing assistant. She enjoyed movies, music, and treasured her Irish heritage. She is preceded in death by her mother, Mary L. and is survived by her father, Raymond L. Watkins; siblings, Jacqueline Douglas, Judith Shenot (Mark), Deborah Castor (Jim), Johanna Cobbold (Chris), Joseph Watkins, Robert Watkins, David Watkins (Cindy), and Daniel Watkins. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews and many dear friends including Joyce Justice and Susan Dunn. A special thanks to the kind doctors, nurses, and staff that assisted in the care and treatment of Kathy over the years, including those with Dr. Hopkins, Dr. Haas, Dr. Cain, and the Cancer Center at AGMC, the general nursing staff at AGMC, and the extraordinary staff at AGMC VNS Hospice Care Center. Your tender care and generous support for Kathy and our family is very much appreciated and you will all be forever treasured in our hearts. Family and friends may call on Monday from 5-8 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., where prayers will be held on Tuesday at 9:20 a.m. followed by a 10 a.m. Catholic Burial Mass at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 2580 Berne St., Akron. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of VNS.
