Mary L. Popowitch, 95, of Akron, went home to be with the Lord on September 8, 2009. Mary was born February 7, 1914 in Yorkville, Ohio to the late George and Sarah Vucelic. She was an active member of Hillwood Chapel. She devoted her life to raising her family and was a talented seamstress. Mary will be missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Milo Popowitch; sisters, Emma Wheaton and Bess Vucelic; and brother, Bob Vucelic. She is survived by her daughter, Sonia (Denny) Davis; son, Milo (Brenda) Popowitch, Jr.; grandchildren, Milo (Maria) Popowitch III, Stephanie (Tom) Skernivitz, and Bethany (Ross) Chassy; and great-grandchildren, Sofia, Josif, Solomon, and Lionel. Family and friends may call on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., where funeral services will be conducted Friday at 10 a.m., Pastor Rufus Hofelt II officiating. Interment at Greenlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hillwood Chapel, 4824 S. Arlington Rd., Akron, OH 44306.
