When God measures a man, He puts the tape around his heart. Wonderful husband, protector and provider, Mel will be dearly missed by wife Carol among many others.
He lovingly cherished his children, Margaret (Jeff) Hochstetler, Melvin Jr. (Carole) Garretson, Laura Abood, Geri (Scott) Bowman, and Mary (Bob) Farmwald. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his favorite blessings with all their accomplishments.
Born in West Virginia, Melvin lived most of his life in Ohio. Genuine and appreciative, Mel was a good neighbor who always did for others; building corn hole games, sharing his garden, fishing, hunting, playing horseshoes, walking with friend Paul and watching his grandchildren. Visiting with siblings, cousins, nephews and nieces was his favorite pastime.
He was preceded in death by parents, Burt & Jesse Garretson; siblings, Raymond, Frank, Loretta, Margaret; infant daughter, Melanie; son, Philip Abood; father-in-law, Howard Krager. His love and humor will be deeply missed by his loving siblings, Delbert (Fran), Robert (Peggy), Edsel (Debbie) Garretson, Mary Hastings, Shelby (John) Crabtree; mother-in-law, Jerry Krager, and the Garretson and Krager families.
Special thanks to the staff at Akron General/Cleveland Clinic, Edwin Shaw and therapists who provided care at home. You will make Mel smile by serving or donating to causes that involve the less fortunate, elderly, children, animals and veterans. Mel is still giving by organ donation and research studies.
