Melvin Elwood Rosen, "Mel", age 77, of Haines City, Florida, formerly of Akron, Ohio, died on March 25, 2021 at the Good Shepherd Hospice in Auburndale, FL.
Mel was a 1962 graduate of Springfield High School and was an honorably discharged US Army National Guardsman, serving during the Vietnam War.
Mel was an over the road truck driver for the last 25 years of his life working for Schneider National and Ruan Trucking. Upon his retirement he moved to Florida along with his loving wife and worked part-time at Universal Studios in Orlando.
He liked to vacation, tell tales of Sasquatch and reminisce about the past, he also loved his chicken strips and Strawberry milkshakes.
He LOVED Ohio State, President Donald Trump and the late Rush Limbaugh!
Mel was one of a kind man, helping any stranger that needed a hand. He was very kind.
Survivors include his loving wife, to former Lucille "Lucy" Bayless, whom he married on December 16, 1975; his children, Michele (Dave) Sartin, Brian Rosen, Michelle Younkin, Jimmy (Hazel) Dilsaver and Michael (Chrissy) Rosen; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
His brother also survives, Homer Keith (Barbara) Rosen and many nieces and nephews.
Other than his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by his sister, Maryann.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 5, 2021 at 5:30 PM at Springfield Assembly of God Church, 1551 Canton Road, Akron, Ohio, where Pastor Eric Schroeder will celebrate Melvin's life.
Family and friends may visit at the church on Monday from 4:30 - 5:30 PM.
Mel will be buried private at Hillside Memorial Park on Tuesday.
