Mervin Louis Stratton II "Marty", 63, of Barberton, passed away on April 1, 2022. Marty was born in Akron on December 17, 1958 to the late Mervin Stratton I and Pearl (Ellis) Stratton.
Marty proudly served in the U.S. Air Force. After his honorable discharge from the service, he earned his business degree from the University of Akron. Marty held several restaurant management jobs before discovering an interest in automotive mechanics. He loved his work as an automotive mechanics instructor at Stark State College for over fifteen years.
Marty enjoyed spending time outdoors in his garden and visiting zoos and county fairs in the summer. He also loved Myrtle Beach and had a trip planned for this summer. Anyone who knew Marty knew that he was an avid Ohio State fan. If the Buckeyes were playing, he was at home watching the game.
In addition to his parents, Marty was preceded in death by his sisters, Ann, Carol, Jeannie, and Linda.
He will be dearly missed by his loving wife Ramona, who he married in July of 2017; his children, Shannon Freeman, Joseph (Chickadee) Freeman, and Valerie Freeman (Adam Burner); grandchildren, Destiny, Mariah, Austin, and Christian; brother-in-law, Edward (Sherrie) Groves; and many other relatives and friends, including his best friend, Vince Smith. Marty also considered his pets a part of the family and he had a special place in his heart for his pugs, Kass, Karlos, and Trixie and his cats, Gizmo and Dexter.
Family and friends may visit on Saturday, April 9, 2022 from 10 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron. Memorial service will begin at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
