Michael Kerlik, Jr.
Michael Kerlik, Jr., 81, of Akron, passed away March 9, 2009. Mike was born in Akron on May 8, 1927 to the late Michael and Helen Kerlik, Sr. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired after 45 years of service from Goodyear Tire and Rubber, where he held the position of Mr. Safety. Mike was a member of the Goodyear Retirees Club, the Firestone VFW, the Junior Order, and the Good Sam Blue Tips Camping Club. He had many friends with whom he enjoyed walking at Chapel Hill Mall. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; son, Michael Kerlik III; and sisters, Ann McGee and Judy Crabtree. He will be deeply missed by his son, Matthew Scott Kerlik; daughter-in-law, Mrs. Michael Kerlik III (Karen); grandchildren, Melissa, Brittany, and Aaron; and many dearly beloved brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-8 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. service at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd. Prayers will be said Friday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a 11:30 a.m. funeral service at St. Mary Orthodox Church, 91 S. Arlington St., Father Myron Zuder officiating. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park with military honors provided by Firestone VFW 3383.
