Michael G. Kurty, 76, of Akron, passed away on July 17, 2018 surrounded by his family.
Mike graduated from Garfield High School in 1959. He served in US Army from 1960 to 1963, and later worked as a truck driver for 34 years before retiring from Overnight UPS. Mike had a tremendous personality. He was kind and caring with a heart of gold and loved by all who were lucky enough to know him. He was strong willed and determined. Mike was more than just funny, he was hilarious! He was a devoted Price is Right viewer and never missed an edition of the Akron Beacon Journal. He loved telling and playing jokes and eating "wonderful" food, but above all he absolutely cherished spending time with his family and friends. Mike never knew a stranger and was loved by all who knew him. He was a devoted husband, dad, son, brother, grandpa, and papa.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Anna Kurty; brother, Bob Kurty; and brother-in-law, Elton Whitehair.
Left to cherish Mike's ("Mokey") memory are his beloved wife of 61 years, Gloria Kurty (Markel); son, Michael (Tom) Kurty; daughters, Michele Kurty and Marsha Moore; sister, Judy Whitehair (Kurty); grandchildren, Katie (Scott) Layne, Julian, Noah, and Aubrey Moore; great-grandson, Scotty Layne; many nieces and nephews; and special longtime friends, the Caley's.
