Milton Whitsett

Milton Whitsett, known by many as "Uncle Miltie", passed away from this life into a grand reunion with his wife and parents and the loving arms of Jesus on March 11, 2005. Born in Fayettville, Tennessee on September 9, 1922 and raised in Lakemore, Uncle Miltie was a graduate of Springfield High School and Kent State University. He served in WWII being stationed in England with the 160th General Hospital on June 6, 1944 and tended wounds of the brave soldiers who were brought back after storming the beaches of France; memories of which remained with him the rest of his life. After his honorable discharge in 1946, he completed his education, married Lois Falkner in December 1948, and moved to the Middletown, OH area in the early 1950's where he took a job with Armco Steel as a chemist. He also worked on the Munroe, OH Fire Department as a medic for many years. He pursued his passion raising, and breeding French Poodles and created quite a name for his respected authority on the breed. Upon his retirement and after the passing of his beloved Lois in 1989, Uncle Miltie opened his home and his heart and served in a mentoring capacity to many young men. Some were college students, some were wayward teens needing direction with their lives. In the fall of 2003 he returned to this area to live out his days near family. Uncle Miltie was a member of/belonged to: Junior Order Of United American Mechanics, the American Legion and Elks Lodge . He loved his pipes, his collection of the Gaither Homecoming music; playing cards and he loved his poodle Cindi. Those who preceded him into Gods presence were his wife Lois, his parents Edgar and Bessie, his baby sister Ora May, and stepson Jack. He is survived by brothers Clarence "Bud" (Clara), and Wendell (Freda), nephews Mark (Margy), David (Barbara), Kevin (Diana), Tim (Rosey), and his favorite (only) niece Gail Arney (Donny) who took care, nursed, and saw to his needs after his return to the area. He also leaves a longtime companion Judie Dalton and a very special friend, Debra Willoughby whom he thought of as his own daughter. She was the caregiver to him and his wife for 25 years, being their nursemaid, housekeeper, trusted confidant, and just made sure he behaved himself! Your investment in his life is greatly appreciated. We Love You Uncle Miltie! If you wish to make contributions in his memory you may send them to the Suffield Fire Department Association- 1256 Waterloo Rd., Mogadore, OH 44260. A two hour service will be held at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, OH 44305, on Mon. March 14 from 5 - 6:30 p.m. with funeral services beginning at 6:30 p.m. His niece and nephews will then accompany him to Middletown, OH where he will be laid to rest beside his loving wife on Tues.
