Nellie M. Jones

Nellie M. Jones, 90, of Akron, went home to be with her Lord on July 21, 2024. Nellie, known to her family as "Shane", was born in Braggs, Alabama on September 8, 1933 to the late Lewis and Rebecca Jones. She was an accomplished gospel singer from a young age and recorded several songs over the years. After graduating high school, Nellie moved to Akron, Ohio where she met James Dinkins. They married in 1950 and started their family. She had many careers in food service, eventually retiring from the VA Medical Center after over 20 years of service. 

Nellie was a ray of sunshine wherever she went and a blessing to everyone she knew. She had a gift for hospitality and always made people feel welcome. She was incredibly kind, loving, and devoted to her God and her family. She will be truly missed by everyone.

In addition to her parents, Nellie was preceded in death by her husband, James; son, Michael Dinkins and an infant son; and twelve siblings.

Left to mourn her passing, are her sons, James (Dianne) Dinkins Jr., Calvin (Deborah) Dinkins, Kenneth Dinkins, and Douglas Dinkins, and Stephen Dinkins; sister, Mattie Morgan; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Per Nellie's wishes, she will be privately laid to rest at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
