Nick P. Guistino
Nick P. Guistino, 86, passed away on August 22, 2009, at his residence.
Born in Akron, he grew up and worked in the various rubber companies until WWII when he joined the Navy and served as a Signalman aboard the USS Nehenta Bay. Returning home he worked for the East Ohio Gas Company and retired in 1983 with 36 years of service. He also owned/operated two neighborhood grocery stores, "Susie-Q" and "M & N Grocery" which served various customers within Akron. He had a great sense of humor and shared it with the family, friends and anyone else he could engage in conversation. He was a huge Notre Dame fan and enjoyed bowling, golfing, playing pool, as well as spending endless hours at Firestone Stadium watching many softball games with his trusty dog, Buttons, at his side. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; brothers John, Orlando, Jim; and sister, Mary Taffi. He is survived by daughter, Karen (Randy) Farabee; sons, Michael (Pam), Nick (Rosemary); grandchildren, Kay, Gina, David (Alex) and Matt; brothers, Danny, Rocco (Fran); sisters, Rosalin Bogich, Josephine Majewski, and Sue Pantuso; sister-in-law Pauline Cincione; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Senior Sitters and AseraCare Hospice for their tender care and kindness and assistance with dads' everyday needs. A funeral mass will be held Thursday, 9:30 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church, Brown St. Akron (PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH). Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Family and friends will be received Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to AseraCare Hospice, 2820 W.
