Gene was a lifelong resident of Akron, retiring after 32 years at McNeil Machine. He was a Third Degree Mason for 49 years. For twelve years, he volunteered in the ER at Akron City Hospital. Gene was an avid deer hunter and he was "one hell of a shot!". Gene never met a stranger, loved his porch swing, had an amazing sense of humor, and could tell a story like no other. Even at death, he could crack a joke , give you that special wink, and make everyone laugh. Most importantly, he showed his family how much he loved them every day. He was a wonderful husband, a loving father and grandfather, and a great friend. He will be truly missed. Visitation will be Wednesday August 7 from 4-7 p.m. followed by a 7 p.m. Masonic service and funeral service with Rev. Tom Tyler officiating at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron.
