Norma Mae McPeek, 89, of Akron, passed away peacefully April 15, 2017. Norma was born in Cleveland, Ohio on May 27, 1927 to the late Henry and Mae Stith. She attended the Columbus School of the Deaf. She retired from the U.S. Postal Service with 20 years of service and before that, she worked at Akron Diamond Towel. Norma attended the Deaf Outreach Church in Green and was previously a member of the Akron Baptist Temple. She was a member of the Akron Deaf Club and the Ellet Community Center, where she was an avid bingo player and enjoyed traveling the world. In her leisure time, she enjoyed crocheting and word puzzles.
In addition to her parents, Norma was preceded in death by her loving husband, Marvin McPeek; brother, Henry Stith, and very close friend, Ernest Reynolds.
She will be dearly missed by her children, Susan (Bill) Hosey, Stephen (Janet) McPeek, of Cambridge, OH and Thomas McPeek, of Tampa, FL; grandchildren, Christy (Jeff) Joyner, Carla (Mike) Fuller, Lowell Halfhill Jr., Steve II(Joyce) McPeek, and Daniel (Halie) McPeek; great-grandchildren, Ashley, Emma, Marissa, Michael, Lowell, Lindsey and Steve III and many extended family and friends.
Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 from 5-8 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Road, Akron, where the funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at 11:00 am with Pastor Darwin Smith officiating. A reception will follow services at Maranatha Bible Church, 1424 Killian Rd., Akron, OH 44312 in room 402.
