Norton B. Gerber
Norton B. Gerber, 93, of Akron, joined his Lord on May 1, 2008. He passed away at Pebble Creek Nursing Home. He was born to Arthur and Pearl Gerber on December 21, 1914, in Freemont, OH. Norton served in the Army, European Theatre and the Navy in the Pacific during WW II. He retired from Mohawk Rubber with 32 years of service and from the Springfield School District with 18 years of service. Norton was a member of Clearview United Methodist Church for many years. He was a member of Wayfarer Lodge #789 for over 60 years, a member of VFW post #8975 and a past commander of the Craftsmans Boat Club. Norton is preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 41 years, Gladys. He is survived by his current wife of 14 years, Helen Jones Gerber; son, Gerald Gerber (Susan) of Akron and daughter Carolyn Vallelunga (David) of CA; stepson James Jones (Merrianna) of Akron and stepdaughter Helen Albright of Green; four grandchildren, Lizabeth Lewis, Mindy and Benjamin Jett, and Joshua Albright. He will be missed very much by family, extended family and many friends. Family will receive friends at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N Canton Rd, Akron, on Sunday, May 4 from 3-6 PM. Funeral services will also be held at the funeral home on Monday, May 5 at 11 AM with Pastor Anne Fisher officiating. Interment Hillside Memorial Park. A masonic service will be held Sunday at 5:30 PM. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to be made to the American Cancer Society.
