Occa Onia Edison

Occa Onia Edison, 35, of Akron, Ohio was born in Canton, Ohio to Dannie Lee Edison and James Sumpter on November 12, 1985. She passed away on July 5, 2021 in Akron. Occa graduated from Timken Senior High School in Canton.

She was a beloved daughter, mother, sister, niece, aunt, cousin and friend. Occa was fiercely loyal to her family and friends, she was everyone's biggest cheerleader and she was always known for being the life of the party, always happy and dancing. We will always remember her for her infectious spirit, sense of humor and her card playing skills, which she enjoyed in her free time. Her personality and presence in our lives will be sorely missed.

Occa is preceded in death by her father, James Sumpter; brothers, Anthony Duane Edison, Tyrone Sumpter. She will be sadly missed by her beloved children, Anthony Edison, Leon Goodwin, A'myla Ruiz, A'uscere Ruiz; her mother, Dannie Edison; her sisters, Christine "Chris" Butler-Duck, Lisa Butler, Shekila (Mario) Hamm-Williams, Rebecca Sumpter, Charice Sumpter; her brothers, James Sumpter Collier, Jr., Charles (Diane) Sumpter, Jarius Sumpter; her nieces, Marquise Butler, Chrishane Hamm, Makala Pruitt, Christine Butler, Ousjah Willis, Myleah Willis, Christian Turner, Kiona Stevens, Jammie Sumpter, Honesty Matthews, Blessing Matthews, Jozlyn Sumpter, Laneil Sumpter, Tamera Hudson, Tomisha Sumpter; her nephews, Tyrone Butler, Micah Stevens, Lamont Davis, Sajjaad Butler, Sincere Drake, Jarius Sumpter, Jr., James Sumpter, Jayden Sumpter; a host of great nieces and nephews who she loved dearly; God sister, Angie Calhoun; special friends, Latasha Merriweather, Porshe Bruster.

Family and friends are invited to visit Saturday, July 17, 2021 from 11 a.m. to 12 noon at Newcomer, Akron Chapel, 131 N. Canton Rd. The funeral service will immediately follow at 12 noon at the funeral home with Evangelist Lisa Allen and Pastor Otho Bowe presiding.
