Ona Arzona Scarberry

Ona A. Scarberry, 81, went Home to be with the Lord on November 29, 2023. She went home as the sun was rising after a strong and valiant battle with Alzheimer's. Born in Akron, Ohio to Ralph and Lillie (Cross) Coontz, she was a lifelong resident of the Akron area. Onie served for 28 years as church secretary at Millheim Baptist Church. She enjoyed flowers, birds, singing, walking, laughing, her relationship with the Lord and spending time with her beloved family, especially her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Harold; sister, Wilma Watson. Onie will be sadly missed by her children, Michelle (Bryon) Moon, Wayne (Bronwen) Scarberry; grandsons, Curt (Ashton), Logan (Staci), Nicholas; great grandchildren, Wyatt, Remy; brother-in-law, Dave Robinson; nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to thank the staff and residents at The Gables of Green for their friendship and loving care of Onie.

Family and friends are invited to visit Thursday, December 7, 2023 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Millheim Baptist Church, 2661 Hayne Rd., Akron, Ohio 44312. The funeral service will follow at 6 p.m. at the church. She will be laid to rest with her husband at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at a later date. Those who wish may make memorial donations in Onie's name to the family for a memorial bench that will be placed at The Gables of Green.
