Oren James Heckert
Oren James Heckert, 81, passed away August 18, 2007, at The Arbors of Fairlawn. Always a kind and gentle man, Oren had battled Alzheimer's disease for many years. Born in Cox Mills WV on July 4, 1926 to Carl and Gay Heckert, Oren grew up there with his eleven other siblings until going off to war at the age of 18. He was in the United States Army stationed with the Battery C 541st Field Artillery Battalion in WWII. After coming back home he completed his education, graduating from West Virginia State College with a degree in Business Accounting and Psychology. He moved to the Akron area where he married Sylvia Ann Ranker in 1956. He began working at General Tire retiring in 1985 after 32 years of service. In 1968 he settled with his family in the Mogadore area. Oren loved the outdoors and was an avid walker. He enjoyed working in his garden or just tinkering around outside. You always knew where to find him by listening for his whistling. He loved to whistle and always had a smile to give you. "Dad we love you and are so happy to know that you are finally HOME." Preceded in death by his daughter Deborah Lynn and grandson Joseph Michael. Oren is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sylvia; sons Michael (Laura) Heckert, Mark (Carolyn) Heckert, Doug Heckert; daughter Elaine (Allen) Husk; grandchildren Crystal, Amy, Michelle, Jonathan, Nathan, Aaron, Elizabeth, Brittany, Courtney, Nicholas, Tara and James; great grandchildren Brandon, Jess and Mikayla. Funeral services will be at NOON on Tuesday, August 21 at the Greentown United Methodist Church, 3088 State St NW, Greentown, with Pastor Dave Andrews officiating. Family and friends may call from 5 - 8 PM on Monday at the NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N Canton Rd or from 11 - 12 at the church on Tuesday.
