Pastor Arthur R. Large, "Ray" or "Art", age 87, of Pleasant City, Ohio, died on January 2, 2018 at 5:15 AM at Select Specialty Hospital.
He was born on October 21, 1930 in Belfry, KY, the son of the late Alvin and Victoria (nee Chapman) Large.
He was a pastor for over 30 years in the Cleveland area at the Blessed Free Will Baptist Church on Detroit Avenue. Arthur spent countless hours doing and giving to his church family, with love and concern. Art spent countless hours evangelizing his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Art was a retired welder from Bird Electronics in Solon. Ray loved to bowl and fish, and he loved his tractors and his farm in Pleasant City.
Arthur was an honorably discharged US Army Veteran during the Korean War, he attained the rank of Corporal.
Survivors include his daughters, Sandra (Randy) Bias of Corning, Ohio, and Cynthia (Bruce) Chumney of Zanesville, Ohio; his grandchildren, Rachel (Benjamin) Wieder, Gregory (Keleigh) Chumney, Timothy (Meghan) Chumney, Cassandra Chumney, Christina (Wade) Tufford, Jennifer (Matthew) Milat, and Angela (Charles) Smith; and 19 great-grandchildren. His sister, Louella Wrenn Sievert also survives in Sophia, WV, and many nieces and nephews.
Other than his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his wife, the former Jean Elkins on September 16, 2005, they were united in marriage on June 28, 1954; his son, Ronald Ray Large; his siblings, Mary Aldridge, and Denny, Pat, and Richard Large.
Military graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Crown Hill Cemetery in Twinsburg, Ohio.
There will also be a celebration of the life of Arthur held at a later date in Sophia, WV.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Newcomer Funeral Home, Akron.
