Pat J. Smith, 77, passed away on September 18, 2009. After working for several trucking companies, he retired from Roadway Express. Pat was a member of Wintergreen Ledges Church of God, Retired Teamsters Fellowship Club, Masonic Lodge 0083, and the American Motorcycle Association. He also enjoyed motorcycles. Pat was a people person. He could enjoy conversations with anyone and was liked by all. Preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Maude; wife Leah; and brother Buddy. Survivors include his daughters Kay (Robert) Stripe, Linda (John) Benson, and Patricia (David) Whited; son Thomas Smith; sisters Bonda (Richard) Aranas and Gloria (Kim) Jones; brothers Donald (Jo Anne) Smith and Gene (Charlene) Smith; grandchildren Robert (Katie) Stripe, Josh Benson, Jeffrey (Stacey) Stripe, Patrick Hall, and Andrew Girsak; 5 great-grandchildren; and dear friend Luverna. Calling hours will be Thursday, 5-8 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., where a funeral service will be held Friday at 10 a.m., Pastor Jim Roma officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
