With profound sadness we announce the unexpected passing of our mother Patricia (Pattie) Margaret Sonagere on February 15. 2023. This amazing and caring soul passed away in her home, leaving a void that will never be filled. Born on December 26, 1951 in Salem, Ohio, she shared a wide open and free spirit that endeared her to everyone she met. She enjoyed the quiet and beauty of being outside - often hiking, kayaking or taking pictures of nature, sunsets and birds. She took delight in meeting new people and always welcomed them into her life. There were many cousins, nieces and nephews that spent summer weeks with "Aunt Pattie". She also enjoyed a wide variety of music ranging from the Moody Blues, Tears for Fears and Pete Yorn.
In her 20's she met her eventual husband Tony and together they raised 3 children in Hudson. As the children entered grade school, she was heavily involved with the Hudson Montessori School Pumpkin Patch, Hudson's PTO and the Hudson Presbyterian Church. In the 90's she graduated from Marymount School of Practical Nursing and worked at Laurel Lake Retirement Community for 15 years. Pattie continued her nursing career until the time of her death. Pattie loved family time, whether it was attending a sporting event, making Christmas cookies, traveling, skiing, spoiling her grandkids or playing cards, she loved every moment of it. Pattie's pride and joy were her kids and grandkids. Pattie is survived by children Ty (wife Pam), Kelly Ryba, and Kyle (wife Mallory), four grandchildren; Jack & Vinny Sonagere, Max Ryba and Luca Sonagere, her sisters, Karen Hipley, Jackie Montgomery and April George, many loved cousins, nieces and nephews and her black lab Penelope. She was preceded in death by her father Jack Montgomery and mother Jennie (Imburgia) Montgomery and sister Sandra Chaffin. May Pattie rest in peace.
Visitation will be held Thursday, February 23rd, from 4pm to 6pm at Newcomer Funeral Home (131 N Canton Rd, Akron, OH 44305) where a memorial service will be held at 6:00pm with Pastor Gary Smith officiating.
